HEALTH ENHANCEMENT

     MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS:

          Each day you will need to bring a pencil or a pen, paper and a three ring binder notebook.

Fitness                                               Chapters 15, 17, 3-4

Nutrition                                            Chapters 18, 5-6

Safety/1st Aid/CPR                                      Chapters 34-35

Environmental/Consumer Health          Chapters 32-33

         

 

                                                   SCHEDULE

          You will alternate between Health Class and Fitness Activities. Monday and Wednesdays are Fitness Activities days. Tuesday and Thursdays are Health in the classroom. We will alternate Fridays. The schedule may vary at times and you will be informed.

 

                                                    GRADING

Grades will be determined using the following percentage system.

Participation = 30% of your grade                A  =  90-100%

Assignments = 30% of your grade                B  =  80-89%

Quizzes = 10% of your grade                       C  =  70-79%

Tests = 20% of your grade                          D  = 60-69%

Final Exam = 10% of your grade                  F  = 59% and below

 

                                      EXTRA CREDIT

Extra credit points are possible if you do such things as worksheets, bulletin boards, reports, get certified in first aid, etc.

 

                                      MAKE-UP WORK

Make-up work is YOUR responsibility. You have two days from the first class when you return to make up missed work.

 

 

 

MAKE-UP ACTIVITIY

Make-up for missed days of PE (activity) is YOUR responsibility. Make up is for missed days for non-school related activities. The make-up activity is a 20min. run/jog at Daylis or on the 3rd floor. There will be two times each month that activity make-up is available.

 

                  

 

                              CLASS EXPECTATIONS

 

          It is my expectation that you will follow the guidelines stated below, to help you become respectful young adults.

 

1.     Respect other students’ comments, opinions and ideas.

 

2.  Congratulate a classmate. If you win, do not brag; if you lose, do

     not show anger.

 

3.     You must complete your homework every day. No complaining

(Well not out loud any way)

 

4.     When a substitute teacher is present, all class rules still apply.

 

5.     Gum, candy, pop and food are not allowed in class.

 

6.     Caps are to be taken off at the door and stored under your desk.

 

7.     Do not ever forget the “Golden Rule”.

 

8.     Learn from your mistakes and move on.

 

9.     Be the best person you can be!!

Billings Senior High Health Enhancement (Activity) Policy and Procedures

 

Course Content:  Health Enhancement is a year course that meets daily and combines the delivery of Health Education and Physical Education.  The activity portion will meet every other day with alternating Fridays, with the Health portion meeting in the classroom on the opposite days.

 

Skills Taught:  Become familiar with the concept of wellness and work to maintain an optimum level of wellness.

·         Apply the principles of exercise and fitness in regard to personal abilities and limitations.

·         Discuss and practice appropriate decision making skills and factors involved.

·         Become aware of safety and first aid procedures.

·         Be actively involved in movement and recreational activities that reinforce all of the above.

 

Gym/Locker Room Procedures:  The student will meet for roll call in the designated gyms.  When the bell rings, the door will be locked.  After dismissal for showers, the students are required to remain in the locker room until the bell rings.  If a student leaves the locker room the will be given an unexcused absence.

 

Class Expectations: 

 

Uniform Policy:  sweat pants, sweat shirts, t-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes

T-shirts:  short or long sleeves, NO tank tops, NO jerseys, NO half shirts, NO drug or alcohol, obscene or derogatory designs.

Shorts: No jeans, biker, spandex, or boxer shorts allowed.

Shoes:  Tennis or athletic shoes.  They must have laces and be tied for safety purposes.  No moccasins, wrestling, aqua, or hard soled shoes.

Caps:  Worn outside only.  NO bandanas allowed.

 

 

For reasons of safety students WILL NOT participate in regular activity if they do not have appropriate clothing and shoes.  Students are allowed only 4 No Clothes per semester.

 

If possible an alternative activity will be assigned.  **  Clothes may be available with the exception of shoes.

·         Consequences to be determined by Dean, Parent & Teacher conference

Ø       Any student receiving an unexcused absence will not be allowed to makeup any missed assignments upon return.

Ø       All students involved in activities will dress out on game days.

Ø       No gum, candy, food allowed during class – 2 warnings with loss of points / 3rd offense sent to deans

Ø       No flagrant language

Ø       If a student is sick and would like to observe class, the student must contact the teacher before roll call and get permission to be excused.  They must also have the proper uniform with them or it will be marked as a “NC”.

Ø       Valuables should be locked in the instructor's office.

Ø       If a student visits a doctor due to an injury or illness they should bring a doctors excuse stating when and if they can participate.

 

Daily Grading

 

            +2 – Superior Effort

            +1 – Full dress / full participation

              0 – absences / makeup activity

            -2 – inadequate participation

-3 – unexcused absence / inappropriate behavior & attitude / sent to dean’s / leaving locker room early or not checking in for second roll call.
