Created to help young people avoid problems. Statistics show that 1 in 10 individuals has or will develop the illness of alcoholism or another drug dependency.

Nearly 1/4 of school-age children come from families where there are problems related to alcohol. A STORY ABOUT FEELINGS is a video for and about children to

assist them in understanding the role that feelings play in their lives. Presented mainly in cartoon form, the video shows how some people drink, smoke, and use

drugs to change their feelings and how, by understanding their own feelings, children can learn to say, "NO".

COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS 30 minutes 9, 10, 11, 12

Grades

In this program, comedian/teen counselor Michael Pritchard visits high schools in Nashville and Boston to explore the critical issue of teen-parent communications.

Through probing dialogue and hypothetical situations, they examine some of the ways in which family communication gets blocked, and consider what kinds of

choices they can make to improve the situation. Objectives: To stimulate young people to think critically about how they and their parents communicate with each

other. To help them see themselves as having the power to improve those communications by making the right choices. To focus their thoughts on what they can do

differently to cause a change for the better.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION 14 minutes 10, 11, 12, ADULT

Grades

Conflict, if properly handled, can be a constructive element. In this program, viewers learn that, with an understanding of teamwork and common goals, conflict can

be resolved without damaging people or relationships. In, Conflict Resolution, Art Linkletter introduces the subject by defining empathy and exploring common goals

and needs among individuals. This segment provides practical steps for resolving relationship conflicts, including guidance on when to involve an intermediary. Other

COPING WITH PRESSURES 30 minutes 9, 10, 11, 12

Grades

In this program, comedian/teen counselor Mike Pritchard and students from St. Louis; New York City; Cleveland; Detroit; Columbia, SC.; and Gainesville, FL, talk about

the pressures they face, from academic competition to peer acceptance to parental expectations. In small group dialogues, they grapple with ways of keeping

pressure in perspective and handling it in a manner that serves their best interests. Objectives: To stimulate young people to think critically about the kinds of

pressures they live with. To encourage and empower them to choose for themselves how they will respond to those pressures. To explore the differences

between legitimate and illegitimate pressures.

DEAD SERIOUS 23 minutes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Grades

Based on the book by Jane Mersky Leder. Objectives: Understand many of the problems facing today's teenagers; Become aware that teenage suicide is

preventable; learn the warning signs, contributing factors, myths surrounding teenage suicide; explore the role of depression and depression mixed with drugs and

alcohol; learn steps teens can take to help a friend who may be suicidal, including important listening skills

DEALING WITH PRESSURES 30 minutes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Grades

Entering middle school and becoming a teenager brings a batch of new pressures. Increased school work, higher expectations, greater stakes for academic

performance, dating, social acceptance, bigger responsibilities and parental demands, more choices, more freedoms, all contribute to a lot of stress. This program

explores positive, healthful ways for young adolescents to cope with it all.

DEPRESSION / STRESS 20 minutes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Grades

Most teenagers get the blues, but some actually develop and suffer from depression. Often depression is brought on by stress. America's Teenage Video Magazine

helps teens identify the warning signs and cope with depression. Teens, who have suffered from the effects of depression, describe their experiences and offer

hope to others, who may be going through the same thing.
